SERVE OTHERS

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS. ALLEVIATE FOOD INSECURITY.

Approximately 198,000 people in rural Minnesota, 3,000 in the McLeod County area, rely on the SNAP program for their basic food needs. Currently, the program is not helping to meet those needs in the state of Minnesota. That is where the church comes in.  This is an opportunity to love our neighbors by helping to meet their most basic needs.

We have contacted the local agencies ready to help fill the gap in McLeod County, and this is what they said they need:

  • Common Cup

Common Cup Ministry is a nonprofit organization that unites local churches to serve individuals in need.

NEEDS: Gift Cards to grocery stores and restaurants. Gift cards to the Dollar Tree. Canned Meat, peanut butter, and canned stews.

Donations can be dropped off at the front desk at CrossPoint.

  • McLeod County Food Shelf

McLeod Food Shelf is committed to alleviating food insecurity and promoting the health and well-being of our community.

We are currently experiencing a significant increase in people visiting the food shelf, with some visitors coming for the first time. While we always welcome food donations, we are currently in need of toiletry items (such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrushes) as well as other necessities like toilet paper.

Donations can be dropped off at our locations in Glencoe and Hutchinson, or at the front desk at CrossPoint.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

If you can’t drop off items, you can still love your neighbors:

  • Tip generously; food service workers are 2.5 times more likely to face food insecurity.
  • Make a meal for a foster family, someone recovering from illness or surgery, or a senior in need.
  • Buy a grocery gift card and ask the cashier to give it to a shopper in need.
  • Contribute to the Backpack program through Common Cup to provide after-school food for students.
  • Demonstrate hospitality and grow in community by inviting someone over for a meal.
